How do I achieve twist outs on my hair?
Very easy to do, twist outs are a must for fans of frizzy hair styled in “nappy hair” mode. They also provide a superb base for creating lots of different hairstyles. Our tips for successfully achieving your twist out every time.
Step 1. Choose between twist out and braid out
Twists are made by wrapping two strands of hair. Braids are made up of three braided strands. Twist outs and braid outs consist of undoing these different braids, while keeping the spirals and limiting styling to the bare minimum.
But then in which case should you opt for twists or braids? If you have moderately frizzy hair and/or if you want rather curly spirals, you should opt for twists. If you have frankly frizzy hair and/or if you want rather wavy spirals, you should opt for braids.
Step 2. Moisturize hair
First, wash, detangle, and moisturize your hair. It is much easier to handle your hair after a deep, hydrating mask. For hydration, you can opt for the LOC method , Liquid (water) - Oil (oil) - Cream (moisturizing cream). The water provides a first layer of hydration, the oil seals in the hydration, and the moisturizer provides a second layer of hydration. As for moisturizer, shea butter is a safe bet!
Step 3. Make the twists or braids
Let's get to the heart of the matter. The ideal is to give yourself a little time and do your twists or braids in the evening in order to be able to enjoy the beneficial effect of the night ( see below) .
Step 4. Let the braids dry
The hardest part is done, now it's time to dry it. We put on a satin scarf to keep the hair hydrated, and we go to sleep.
Step 5. Undo the twists or braids
We remove the twists or braids, separate their strands, open the twists in two and braid them in three, then detach the strands from each other to homogenize the hair. We try to find a happy medium in order to keep the curls or waves as much as possible. We finish by running our hands through the hair, again to homogenize the hair, but also to give it more volume.
