Black soap (also) protects your hair!

OUR ADVICES

Known since the dawn of time for its positive effects on the skin, black soap has resources and also proves to be an ally of choice for the hair.

Let's clarify things from the outset: the black soap discussed in this article is cosmetic black soap. It should not be confused with its namesake dedicated to household cleaning (otherwise ouch!).

Now let's get to the heart of the matter: black soap is a centuries-old beauty asset. It is known to perfectly detoxify the skin, to gently exfoliate it and to effectively moisturize it. But its action on hair is less known. However, it has nothing to be ashamed of, far from it. Black soap is indeed a very gentle product, neither irritating nor abrasive, ideal for the hair fiber as well as for the scalp.

What is black soap?

It is actually a vegetable soap. We distinguish between Moroccan black soap (Beldi for short), made from olive oil and crushed black olives, and West African black soap, composed of ashes from crushed walnut husks with palm leaves, diluted in water and mixed with palm oil, shea butter and cocoa butter.

The first one is more of a thick paste, and the second one is solid but becomes gelatinous when in contact with water. In any case, both also exist in liquefied format, for easier use.

Which black soap for which hair?

Moroccan black soap is more suitable for dry hair or damaged scalp . Its high content of restorative vitamin E helps to deeply nourish the hair fiber and soothe sensitized scalp. Its softening properties calm itching and gently exfoliate. Ideal for getting rid of dandruff.

West African black soap is gentler. Its concentration of iron and vitamins A and E helps strengthen normal and damaged hair.

On the other hand, in the case of oily hair, it is better to avoid using black soap, whatever it is. We move on.

How to apply black soap to hair?

Black soap is used exactly like a regular shampoo . It can also be used as a hair scrub. It is applied to the roots, massaged into the scalp, left on for a few minutes and rinsed. However, it is best to limit its use to once a month, so that the scalp can regenerate without being irritated.
