Yarn braids, the ideal protective hairstyle for hair growth

Thanks to the “nappy hair” trend, braids are once again all the rage. It must be said that this protective hairstyle is recommended for hair growth, but not only…  

For textured hair, nappy hair marks a sort of return to the roots. In fact, "nappy" is actually a contraction of "natural" and " happy ". The goal: not to constrain the nature of the hair. We let it live without artifice, without straightening or chemical straightening that traumatize the hair fiber. We embrace our natural curly hair with hairstyles that respect the specificities linked to this hair texture. It is therefore not surprising that braids with thread, very popular in Africa since the dawn of time, are once again popular.  

Yarn braids promote hair growth (but not only that)  

No, braids with thread do not have the magical superpower of accelerating hair growth per se. But, as a protective hairstyle , they at least have the merit of limiting breakage. And it makes sense, when the hair is covered with a thread, we are not tempted to manipulate it. It then has the possibility of growing while keeping its length.  

Beyond growth, braiding with wire allows you to stretch your hair to the maximum, without the slightest heat input, to soften it, to hydrate it more easily and to detangle it effectively.  

How to achieve this protective hairstyle?  

We proceed little by little. We take a portion of damp hair (usually braided after shampooing), we apply a moisturizing product, or even an oil to seal in the moisture, we detangle, then finally we wrap and attach the thread at the root before going up the length. When the entire portion is covered, we fold the thread back on itself to have a piece of thread sticking out, then we tie a knot. We repeat this operation on all the portions of hair.  

Good to know, you can connect the different braids together to create more or less original hairstyles!  

There is only one pitfall to avoid with braids: do not tighten too much at the roots at the risk of causing traction alopecia or patches.
