What product should I use as a hair lightener?
As summer approaches, many of us want a surfer look by lightening our hair with pretty highlights. Problem is... we're not surfers! Fortunately, there are solutions to take the plunge even when we haven't seen the sea and the sun for ages. Here are which products to use to lighten your hair.
Solution #1 to lighten your hair: apply a lightening product
As you can imagine, there is no shortage of lightening products on the market. First and foremost, there are specific shampoos, including quite a few organic ranges, mainly composed of chamomile so that the lightening is as gradual as possible.
Lightening sprays also exist. They are developed from hydrogen peroxide and allow you to obtain rapid results. The advantage of the lightening spray is that you can really move forward as you want, acting on a few strands here and there, or on the entire head of hair. For maximum effect, dry your hair with a hair dryer after spraying, and remember to always moisturize the hair fiber because hydrogen peroxide has an unfortunate tendency to dry it out.
Lightening sprays work very well on blonde and light brown hair. But if you are darker, it is better to team up with your favorite hairdresser so as not to impose an overly aggressive treatment on your hair. The hairdresser will instead focus on gradualness, with balayage , lighter highlights, and finally a pretty blonde with golden highlights.
Solution #2 to lighten your hair: apply natural products
However, we cannot advise you enough to trust Mother Nature. Many natural products are able to lighten the hair fiber effectively:
Honey
The charming asset of honey is its specific enzyme, glucose oxidase. It transforms glucose and oxygen into hydrogen peroxide (link to article "Everything you need to know about bleaching") . Honey is ideal for blond hair between two colorings. How to use it? Mix it with a conditioner, wrap your hair in a hot towel overnight, then rinse.
Chamomile
Dried chamomile flowers or six chamomile tea bags are put in a liter of boiling water. Let it cool, apply to the hair and leave it on overnight.
The lemon
An acid by nature, lemon opens the cuticle and breaks down the colored pigments present in the hair fiber. To benefit from the virtues of this fruit, mix lemon juice with a nourishing shampoo or conditioner, leave it on for an hour, and rinse.
Cinnamon
This spice is ideal for brunettes. Mix one volume of cinnamon powder with one volume of conditioner, apply to damp hair, leave on overnight, wrapping your hair in cellophane or a shower cap so as not to leave marks on your pillow. In the morning, rinse with shampoo.
Vinegar
Dissolve one volume of cider vinegar in one volume of water. Apply to the hair. Leave for a quarter of an hour, then rinse.
Salt water
When you can't go to the sea, you can always make it come to you! Dissolve salt in water, boil it, let it cool, apply the mixture to your hair, and let it work.
